Knowledge, with its wide classifications, can be parsed into individual and collective knowledge. Executives recruit followers based on their individual knowledge, which refers to that person’s skills, prior-knowledge, and proficiencies—sometimes referred to as competencies. Collective knowledge, on the other hand, has been defined as “organizing principles, routines and practices, top management schema, and relative organizational consensus on past experiences, goals, missions, competitors, and relationships that are widely diffused throughout the organization and held in common by a large number of organizational members

Thus, collective knowledge is part of the executive’s protocol and comes fairly natural at the higher echelons of the organization. Knowledge can also be classified using individual, social, and structured dimensions. Executives can categorize followers based on their human knowledge which focuses on individual knowledge and manifests itself in individual’s competencies and skills. This form of knowledge comprises the skills gained by individual experiences, and learned as rules and instructions formulated by executives for followers to use as a guide. Social knowledge, on the other hand, is categorized as individual knowledge that is shared so that it can become collective knowledge.

Executives can use structured knowledge that emerges in formal language from annual reports, memos, and other means of communication to be represented as statements. Therefore, executives can classify knowledge in this way so that it emerges at three levels—individual (i.e. human), group (i.e. social) and organizational (i.e. structured).

सकारात्मक राहा -- सुरक्षित रहा -- आनंदी राहा

एका कैद्याला फाशीची शिक्षा सुनावण्यात आली, तेव्हा काही वैज्ञानिकांनी ह्या कैद्यावर काही प्रयोग करण्याचे ठरविले व त्यास मान्यताही मिळाली. त्या कैद्याला सांगितलं गेलं, की तुला फाशी न देता विषारी कोब्रा डसवून मारणार आहे.

त्याच्या समोर एक मोठा विषारी साप आणला गेल्यानंतर त्या कैद्याचे डोळे बंद करून त्यास खुर्चीला बांधले. आणि त्याला साप डसवून नाही, तर दोन सेफ्टी पिन्स टोचण्यात आल्या आणि काय आश्चर्य त्या कैद्याचा दोन सेकंदात मृत्यू झाला.

पोस्टमॉर्टेम केल्यानंतर समजलं, की कैद्याच्या शरीरात सापाच्या 'व्हेनम'सदृश्य विष आहे. आता हे विष कुठून आलं, की ज्यामुळे कैद्यांचा जीव गेला?  ते विष मानसिक धक्क्यामुळे त्याच्या शरीरानेच उत्पन्न केलं होतं!

आपल्या प्रत्येक संकल्पामुळे पॉजिटिव्ह किंवा निगेटिव्ह एनर्जी उत्पन्न होते व त्यानुसार आपल्या शरीरात Hormones उत्पन्न होतात.  ९०% आजारांचं मूळ कारण नकारात्मक विचारांनी उत्पन्न होणारी ऊर्जाच आहे.

आज मनुष्य आपल्या चुकीच्या विचारांचा भस्मासुर बनवून स्वत:चा विनाश स्वत:च करत आहे.

What is Creative Thinking?

Creative thinking is the ability to create or formulate new things and ideas which can be any kind of artwork, any concept, any method, any solution, or even any gadget. Creative thinking is about “thinking outside the box”

Everything comes with creativity and inspiration. Even the people you know who are billionaires are creative creatures.

Any person who has a fresh perspective towards a particular thing is different from any usual perception. Musicians, artists, engineers, business tycoons, entrepreneurs, and several people like them are creative thinkers. One cannot copy anything; everyone has their way of creativity.

Generally, people think it’s hard to be so creative like well-known personalities, but it’s not. Anyone can be creative; all you need is a different way of thinking

How to Improve your Creative Thinking?

Keep working even if you feel uninspired- Numerous distractions are roaming around you, don’t let them hit you. It often happens to a writer when a writer’s block distracts her/him from his path. Procrastination and Writer’s block are two different things. Procrastination is when you keep on delaying any task due to your laziness or less interest in it. On the other hand, Writer’s block is when you want to write, but you can’t find any word to initiate. There can be weeks where you don’t feel like writing anything. And on those days, try to work, work for short periods, but keep on working. And don’t let anyone distract you; don’t get indulged in any other work than this.

Leave your Comfort Zone-We know that it’s tough for a person to choose a path of struggle instead of staying in their comfort area. But you know, it’s for your benefit, you get to know yourself better. The more you try new, the more creative it gets, every time. The comfort zone makes you lazy and a bit less productive

Work, enjoy, dream, work-

Keep your mind fresh and relax when you are at work. You don’t have to worry too much about it; you should create your own space

Try to work with full effort and when you relax, try to relax all your muscles. Enjoying and relaxing should be a part of your daily routine. It is better if you work and daydream and then continue to work. Dreaming, napping or even dancing helps you in enhancing the creative side of your brain. There are several works which can give you a headache, so the better way to tackle it is relaxing

Brainstorm-Brainstorming is a way to generate ideas for solving any problem.

This method includes an association that encourages creative thinking and creates a free-thinking environment. It’s about containing groups of people and asking them for a solution regarding any problems. This teamwork and combination of creative thinkers give us a method named brainstorming.

SKILLS-

Open-Mindedness- Creative thinkers can think in a different and novel way. Keep aside your assumptions and look for things utterly new way. When a problem arises, try to deal with it with an open mind. Give yourself a chance to think creatively

Analysis-The first rule of creative thinking is to listen first and try to understand it very well. Do not jump into the conclusion. To understand the things you need to have to the quality of examining things minutely, carefully to understand what exactly it wants to say.

Problem-Solving-Not every employer is the same. Every employer wants to hire creative thinkers so that they can bring changes in the organization. The employer wants creative thinkers who will help them to solve problems

Communication- One will appreciate your creativity if you can communicate well with them and make them understand well about your idea. To make other people understand, you should have strong oral and written skills.

Final Thoughts!

Online education is not so easy as speaking into the microphone at one end, and connecting a laptop and listening in on the other; there are challenges faced at both ends of the spectrum.

Covid-19 has forced universities across India, and the world indeed, to suspend physical classrooms and shift to online classes. In India, while this transition has been smooth for most private universities, the public ones are still adapting. There have also been debates on the nature of classes, and the future of examination and evaluation — whether they could be conducted online or not.

First response: Going digital

The IITs also shifted to conducting online classes, and sharing study materials and audio files with students over the internet. Timothy Gonsalves, director of IIT Mandi, says: “The faculty members are available online during interactive sessions for students to clear their doubts. Depending on the nature of the course and students’ internet access, teachers are supplementing Moodle (an open-source learning-management system) with assorted social media and online platforms.”

The universities and teachers Business Standard reached out to agreed that their transition to online teaching had not been very difficult. However, if the lockdown continued over a longer period, some investment in infrastructure and additional training for teachers and students would be required, they said

What does online education mean for the future? Author Mukul Kesavan, who teaches history at Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia University, highlights the problem of inequity, underlining that only some of his students are able to attend online lectures. “One way to get around is if you can create class emails and reading lists, and send recording of lectures. But this is not an experiment that can be sustained in the long term without excluding everyone coming from towns or villages where there is an obvious problem of technology access.”

Higher education is seldom about exams, classes, or grades. Rather, it is about an experience that prepares a student to become a functioning member of the work force, with requisite knowledge, skills, and life experiences.

Students have complained about lack of clarity going forward and what the plan of action would entail, especially with respect to examinations, results, internships, and placements. While most institutions of higher education are trying their best in this situation, nobody knows what will happen next.

Most educators across institutions agree that there is a need to invest in creating standardised online education platforms, and not using apps and Google hangouts only; and to train both students and teachers. Others highlight the necessity to introspect on the nature of these platforms and how students are taught using different online tools and methods, while keeping accessibility and equity challenges in mind. There is also the need to understand all this across academic disciplines and institutions.

The way ahead can be charted only if we take into account the diverse views of experts, and incorporate all the lessons learnt from the summer of 2020.

JEE, NEET – Last Minute Tips

The various competitive entrance exams like JEE, NEET etc. are on a toss due to uncertain pandemic set across nation. There are significant numbers of student preparing for these exams for almost two or more years and the admissions will take place only after these tests are conducted. The job aspirants are also hit badly due to the lockdown as their coaching centers are closed, exams postponed and staying inside adding to the anxiety.

Most of the competitive exams leading to jobs are a mix of multiple-choice and descriptive. Majority of these multiple-choice tests also have provision for negative marking.

Following tips/tricks may help candidates in a multiple-choice test situation:

Easiest questions first: Begin responding to easiest questions (category 1) this will help in gaining confidence and ensure that you have secured some marks. 

Move to category 2 questions: Once you have attempted all category 1 questions, you may now move to category 2. When you move to category 2 questions you may feel that some of the category 2 questions were actually category 1. This may simply happen because now you are confident and relaxed. 

Manage time and pace: Maximum time may be allocated to questions of category 1 and 2 particularly if there is negative marking. If you have extra time then look at some of the category 3 questions otherwise, just review the earlier answer wherever you have doubts.

Don’t look at any pattern of answers: Even if you have answered ‘C’ in your last 4-5 questions do not suspect your answer just by the coincidence of all having same correct answer. 

Do not look at options at first: Try to think out the answer before looking at the options. This way you will be able to be sure of your answer and avoid confusion. 

What if you have more than two probable answers: These questions are very difficult to answer. You may choose any of the two and then label such questions as True/False and move on. During review you may spend more time on these questions and by re-reading the question and reasonably thinking through you may conclude the correct answer.

Be cautious of words in question which are conclusive: These conclusive terms tend to depict things either correct or incorrect where this is often not the case. Words like permanently, certainly, entirely, fully and only are absolutes. Relative words like frequently, typically, appear, possibly and could are often more accurate.

Convert statements for easy understanding: It is advised to convert the double negatives into simple statements. For example the term "Not failing" can be converted to "passing" and this can reduce confusion.

Guess with logic: If you must guess (particularly if there is no negative marking), rule out the option which is way too different than others.

Besides your preparation for the test, the body-language, confidence and anxiety also play a crucial role in how you perform in the test.

Following are some tips for keeping you in the best position :

  • Arrive the exam center at least half an hour before the reporting time.
  • Avoid last minute memorizing with friends/mates outside the exam center
  • Some level of anxiety or excitement is natural don’t panic. Such stimulation is normal and desirable in the sense that it implies you are ready and alert.
  • If you feel excessively nervous — if your heart is pulsating, if you are having butterflies in your stomach— then calm yourself physically by attending to your breathing. Breathe slowly, rhythmically and deeply.
  • Make use of the full allotted time for the exam; do not be upset or disturbed if other people finish early. They may have given up without having finished the test.

Maharashtra students of classes 10 and 12 (both Marathi & English Medium) can start their studies immediately without any delay happening today due to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, all the textbooks for these two classes have been uploaded online. Students can download them in English or Maratha, in PDF format from the official Balbharti website linked below.

The Maharashtra government has announced that the Maharashtra school textbooks for classes 10 and 12 supplied by Balbharti -- the state bureau for textbook publishing and curriculum research -- would be available for free online in PDF format.

School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad tweeted on Wednesday to announce the same. "In order to prevent the loss of 10th and 12th students in the situations arising out of the lockdown, the students of 10th and 12th will have their books available on the website in a pdf form," The minister said in her tweet.

With Maharashtra Class 12 syllabus changed, new books a necessity

Though books for class 10 were available earlier, new books for class 12 have been added as well. The class 12 syllabus has also been revised this year, and since Balbharti is unable to supply textbooks in the market due to the Covid-19 lockdown, it uploaded them in PDF online to ensure the material reaches students for free.

The Maharashtra government also has an e-balbharti app where content for class 10 students was already available. It is now being updated with content for students of class 12.

The students of Mahindra Ecole Centrale, an engineering college in Hyderabad created India’s first live, district-wise COVID-19 tracker which can even be installed as a mobile app. The website uses data from credible sources like official health websites and news outlets which is then thoroughly crosschecked by a group of students and marked on the website map.

As far as reports go, CovIndia is India’s only district-wise Covid-19 tracker. It could prove helpful for people travelling within the country in avoiding virus-prone zones and would also help the authorities to mobilize resources more efficiently.

The website was developed primarily by Raghav NS (3rd year), Ananta Srikar (1st year) and Rishab Ramanathan (1st year) under the guidance of the faculty.

How will the district-wise Covid-19 tracker help people?

While there is sufficient country-wise information available on the Coronavirus spread from websites tracking the number of Covid-19 cases across the world, there was some dearth of information on individual districts of India.

The new district-wise Covid-19 tracker will help people in India get very precise information regarding their district and the neighboring ones, says Raghav.

"The government also stands to benefit greatly from this data as it can decide on the relief measures to be taken in a more precise fashion," he adds.

The rich dataset being created by the website would lastly help the whole scientific community who is studying the Coronavirus pandemic by giving them the resources to do correlation studies with respect to weather conditions and number of cases to predict the future spread of Covid-19.

As Raghav says: "Any dataset with such precise and well-curated information is priceless."

Where does India's first district-wise Covid-19 tracker get its data from?

The live district-wise Covid-19 tracker updates the number of Coronavirus cases in various districts of India almost in real time which is very important to keep track of how fast the Coronavirus is spreading.

"We use Artificial intelligence to retrieve the relevant information as quickly as possible and use Human Intelligence (student volunteers) to ensure that all data is verified before we claim a new case has been reported," he says.

But how do they ensure that there is no false reporting of Coronavirus cases?

"To ensure no false reporting, we give the links to our sources and also encourage our users to report any error in our data. Our goal is to provide detailed data as live as possible, without spreading false information," he explains.

What all information does the Coronavirus tracker provide?

CovIndia has a neat and clean layout giving live district-wise information. But a big attraction of the website is the time-lapse feature where people can see how corona is spreading geographically, all over India.

The website also provides the standard statistics which almost everyone provides such as -- total number of reported cases, state-wise distribution etc.

"We will be adding more data on the number of tests that have been done in India soon as it is a very important statistic to understand the situation," he says, on the plans in process to add more information on the website.

"In addition, we plan to do research analysis to see if we can predict the spread of Corona and help prevent further spread there through preventive measures," Raghav adds.

"Through this activity, the message to the parents was to see any item in the household as potential learning material. Another exercise for the students of Classes 1 and 2 was sent on Friday to encourage them to estimate the number of items available at home, which they can hold in their hand, and then actually hold them.”

West Bengal Govt declares virtual classes for understudies of 9 to 12.

with the suspension of classes due to coronavirus pandemic since March 16, West Bengal government on Friday, April 3, 2020, declared multi week long virtual homeroom for understudies of higher classes of state-run schools from one week from now. Education Minister Partha Chatterjee told a press meet here that from April 7, during a specific time, understudies from class 9 to 12 will sit before their TV sets and switch on the DD Bangla channel where some notable educators will give addresses on specific subjects.

Students have to submit home activity report

He said as per the curriculum of the first summative exam in every school, students will have to submit home activity report during the period of suspension of classes till April 14 and submit the report once the school opens.

Model questions for the activity report can be downloaded from state school education department portal by teachers of respective institution and sent to students via WhatsApp, mail after modification by the concerned teacher if they think so, he said.

Mega merger of PSU Banks

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to go ahead with the merger plan of ten state-run banks into four larger bank from April 1. The apex bank has issued four separate releases announcing that the branches of merging banks will operate as of the banks in which these have been amalgamated from next month.

RBI's statement comes after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's clarification on Thursday that the mega bank consolidation plan was very much on track and would take effect from April 1, 2020.

The government on March 4 had notified the amalgamation schemes for 10 state owned banks into four as part of its consolidation plan to create bigger size stronger banks in the public sector.

Bank officers' unions, however, earlier this week wrote to the prime minister seeking to defer the merger schemes of lenders due to the lockdown triggered by coronavirus outbreak. As per the scheme, Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India will be merged into Punjab National Bank; Syndicate Bank into Canara Bank; Allahabad Bank into Indian Bank; and Andhra and Corporation banks into Union Bank of India.

Under this, the branches of Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India will operate as branches of Punjab National Bank from April 1, 2020, and branches of Syndicate Bank as that of Canara Bank, the RBI said in a separate releases.

Allahabad Bank branches will operate as those of Indian Bank while the branches of Andhra Bank and Corporation Bank will function as the branches of Union Bank of India from the beginning of next fiscal year 2020-21, the RBI said.

"The Amalgamation of Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India into Punjab National Bank Scheme, 2020 dated March 4, 2020, issued by the Government of India... The scheme comes into force on the 1st day of April 2020," RBI said.

Customers, including depositors of merging banks will be treated as customers of the banks in which these banks have been merged with effect from April 1, 2020, the RBI noted. Banking services across the country are impacted due to the effect of COVID-19 as a near shut down is being observed across the country.

In a letter written to the Prime Minister on March 25, the All India Bank Officers'' Confederation (AIBOC) said, "The finance minister yesterday announced a slew of measures in view of the deleterious effect of the contagion. We are also expecting an extension of closing related activities and the revision of the closing date itself from March 31 to June 30, which is the need of the hour."

Fear of Uncertain Future

Start-up to Fight for survival

A few days ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon both the public and private sector not to resort to wage cuts or layoffs. However, the reality at the ground level seems to be grim. Companies like MakeMyTrip and Zomato and many more have already announced voluntary salary cuts, especially from the top management and those in leadership positions.

Rituparna Chakraborty, Co-founder, TeamLease, says, “For the first time, we have no forecasts, and we have no idea what is going to happen. Large companies can sustain current employees for a while, but startups cannot sustain this over the next quarter, and churn has already started to happen. 2020 can be a gap year for many of us.”

Anand Jayaramanna (name changed), an engineer working with a startup in Bengaluru, was literally shown the door last week as the company could not withstand the sudden slowdown in business due to lockdown. “It was all very sudden, and they did not give us any notice. I have savings only for the next three months. After that it is going to be hard for me,” says Jayaramanna.

This shows the unprecedented challenge that startups may have to face in the coming months if the spread of the novel coronavirus is not contained.

The threat of job losses has now raised its ugly head on the startup ecosystem, which provides employment, directly or indirectly, to little more than half million people, according to various reports. According to Nasscom, Indian IT industry’s trade body, Indian startups created an estimated 60,000 direct jobs and 1.3-1.8 lakh indirect employment in the year 2019.

This is an indication of the things to come as the startup ecosystem provides employment to both formal and informal job sectors. And there is also a large segment of workers who come under the category of the gig economy.

“Hiring is almost down in all the sectors. Retail and ecommerce are the worst hit,” says Pravin Agarwala, CEO and co-founder, BetterPlace. He adds that the next two months will be very crucial for employees in the blue-collar segment as nobody knows what the future holds.

Rohit Tewari, Founder, ReferHire, a HR tech startup, says, “What we are facing now is a cash flow crisis, with businesses grinding to a halt. Startups have already started to feel the pressure as most of them are living on a month-to-month basis.”

Such a situation will put tremendous pressure on startups, given that they do not have the cash reserves or resources of larger firms.

Most vulnerable segments At a time when salary freeze or pay cut and layoffs all look very real, there are certain segments in the startup ecosystem, which seem to be very vulnerable.

Deepak Agarwal, Co-founder, TurboHire, a Hyderabad-based HR startup, says, “Indians do not have the habit of firing people, at least in the formal sector. I do not see layoffs happening at least in the month of April, but it will be a case of wait and watch.” He feels that if the mid-to-long term prospects look bad, then layoffs could start, and it will mostly begin with the non-essential staff.

According to BetterPlace, which places and tracks blue collar workers, India employs around 170 million blue collar workers, and it estimates that more than 65 percent of them will not be employed next month. Impact on tech industry Even though the pressure seems to be high on the unskilled or semi-skilled segment in terms of employment, the situation is not very optimistic on the skilled talent pool side either, as there is almost a complete freeze on hiring.

Kamal Karanth, Co-founder, Xpheno, a specialist staffing startup, says, “Employment in GICs (global in-house centres) for technology hiring was down by 50 percent as of last week, and going forward, we believe there will be no hiring. People will now safeguard their business and focus on efficiencies.” India churns out around 1.5 million engineering graduates every year, and in the current situation, their job prospects also look weak. The technology industry in the country employs around 4 million people directly, and is one of the biggest absorbers of the technical talent pool. Given this environment, the startup community is now hoping for some kind of stimulus package from the government, which would be real and meaningful. This is the broad sentiment expressed across the ecosystem.

However, for startups which have been conservative with their cash, the situation could be slightly better. According to a startup founder, “We have enough cash, which can last us for four months. If we are not growing, at least we will survive.”

A bleak future The current situation is also creating a unique scenario for startups to go back to their drawing board and think about their future.

Rituparna says, “Many of us have to get used to a new way of working, which is dynamic, and perhaps work for multiple firms. I would recommend people to reinvent themselves and utilise this time gainfully.” However, the big question remains as to when will the outbreak end and life get back to normal ?

Kamal says, “If and when hiring opens up, businesses will try to use current staff to increase efficiencies and hiring will be the last thing on their mind. This period is going to be one of the hardest times for India.” He further adds that it would take 12 months for tech hiring to get back to normal conditions. But there is some hope for companies like HR tech startup TurboHire, which has onboarded two new clients during this period.

As Deepak says, “The optimism is still there in the market. Companies are still scanning the market for the talent even though there is a delay in their joining dates.”

सध्या लागू असलेल्या लॉकडाऊन कालावघीत भाजीपाला, अन्नधान्य, औषधे, दुध इत्यादी विविध प्रकारच्या जीवनावश्यक सामग्रीच्या वाहतुकीस मान्यता देण्यात आली आहे. देशभरात लागू असलेल्या लॉकडाऊनच्या पार्श्वभूमीवर राज्यात अत्यावश्यक सेवा आणि वस्तूंची वाहतूक करणाऱ्या वाहनांना पोलीस यंत्रणेमार्फत ई-पास देण्यात येणार आहे. यासाठी ऑनलाईन प्रणाली तयार करण्यात आली असून https://covid19.mhpolice.in/ या लिंकवर जाऊन संबंधितांना अर्ज करता येईल.

सर्व अत्यावश्यक सेवा देणाऱ्या संस्था, व्यक्ती या प्लॅटफॉर्मवरुन ई-पास साठी अर्ज करू शकतात. याठिकाणी सर्व आवश्यक माहिती भरुन अर्ज दाखल केल्यानंतर टोकन आयडी प्राप्त होतो. त्याचा वापर अर्जाची स्थिती तपासण्यासाठी करता येईल. पोलिस यंत्रणेच्या मान्यतेनंतर किंवा पडताळणीनंतर टोकन आयडी वापरुन ई-पास डाउनलोड करूता येईल.

ई-पासमध्ये अर्जदाराची माहिती, वाहन क्रमांक, वैधता तारीख आणि क्यूआर कोड असेल. प्रवास करताना ई-पासची सॉफ्ट तसेच हार्ड कॉपी जवळ ठेवावी आणि विचारणा केल्यावर पोलिसांना दाखवावी, असे या पत्रकात म्हंटले आहे. वैध तारखेनंतर त्याचा वापर किंवा अन्य प्रकारे गैरवापर केल्याचे आढळल्यास तो दंडनीय गुन्हा मानला जाईल.

घरी राहा व घरूनच काम करा ...

सध्या अवघ्या जगासमोरच कोरोना व्हायरसचे संकट असून आपला देशही त्याला अपवाद राहिलेला नाही. वेगाने फैलावणार्‍या या विषाणूच्या संसर्गाला आळा घालण्यासाठी लॉकडाऊन हाच प्रभावी उपाय आहे. सध्या आपल्या देशातही 21 दिवसांचा लॉकडाऊन सुरू आहे आणि या काळात अनेक लोक घरी बसूनच ऑफिसचे काम करीत आहेत. या ‘वर्क फ्रॉम होम’ मुळेही अनेकजण मेटाकुटीला आले आहेत व त्याची अनेक कारणे आहेत. त्यामध्ये ऑफिसपेक्षा घरचे कॉम्प्युटर, लॅपटॉप स्लो असणे, वारंवार इंटरनेट कनेक्शन जाणे, घरात सगळेच असताना व विशेषतः लहान मुलांच्या दंग्यात काम करताना अडचण येणे अशा अनेक समस्यांचा सामना करावा लागत आहे.  त्या पार्श्‍वभूमीवर खालील माहिती आपणास उपयुक्त ठरेल.

एक जागा तयार करा

ऑफिससारखी स्पेस, ते वातावरण घरी बसून मिळणं शक्य नाही, याची सर्वांनाच जाणीव आहे; मात्र कामाला सुरुवात करण्यापूर्वी आपण घरातच स्वतःची अशी ‘स्पेस’ तयार करू शकतो. ही जागा निश्‍चित केल्यावर तिथे बसून काम करण्याचा प्रयत्न करा. शक्यतो ही जागा बेडपासून दूर असू द्या अन्यथा काम करताना आराम करण्याचा मोह आवरणार नाही.

टार्गेट तयार करा

कामाला सुरुवात करण्यापूर्वी तुमच्या कामाचे एक टार्गेट तयार करा. तुम्हाला सुरुवातीला काय करायचे आहे, कोणते काम वेळखाऊ आहे आणि कोणते काम पटकन होऊ शकते याची यादी तयार करून काम करा. कामाचे वेळापत्रक तयार करा. इंटरनेट कनेक्शन वगैरे गोष्टी गृहित धरूनच त्याची आखणी करा.

अधूनमधून ब्रेक घ्या

एकाच जागी दीर्घकाळ बसू नका. ऑफिसची सिटिंग अरेंजमेंट पूर्णपणे वेगळी असते. तशी सिटिंग अरेंजमेंट घरी नसल्याने फार काळ एकाच जागी बसता येत नाही. त्यामुळे अधूनमधून पाच मिनिटांचा ब्रेक घ्या, रिलॅक्स होऊन कामाला सुरुवात करा.

आपल्या सहकार्‍यांच्या संपर्कात राहा

दररोज सहकार्‍यांच्या संपर्कात राहा. किमान पाच मिनिटे त्यांच्याशी संवाद साधा. त्यामुळे तुम्हाला काम करताना सोपे होईल आणि तुम्हाला फ्रेश वाटेल. घरात बसण्याचा कंटाळाही येणार नाही.

कुटुंबीयांना विश्‍वासात घ्या

घरीच असलो तरी आपण ऑफिसचे, महत्त्वाचे काम करीत आहोत, याची सौम्यपणे कुटुंबीयांना विशेषतः लहान मुलांना जाणीव करून द्या. त्यामुळे ते तुमच्या कामाच्या वेळेत व्यत्यय आणणार नाहीत, तरीही आपण ऑफिसमध्ये नसून घरीच आहोत व त्याच्या काही मर्यादाही आहेत, याची जाणीव असू द्या.

आपल्या आरोग्याची काळजी घ्या

सर्वात महत्त्वाचे म्हणजे तुमची आणि तुमच्या कुटुंबीयांची काळजी घ्या. दररोज घरी योगासने किंवा अन्य योग्य व्यायाम करा. पोषक आहार घ्या आणि स्वतःला व इतरांना आनंदी ठेवण्याचा प्रयत्न करा.

This includes a repo rate cut of 75 basis points, Rs 3.74 lakh crore liquidity boost, and deferment of loan installments for 3 months, among other things.

Ten days ago, Governor Shaktikanta Das had assured that Reserve Bank of India holds enough firepower to tackle the coronavirus crisis, and will use it when the time is right.

The motive of Reserve Bank's liquidity boost is to arm the banks better so that they are ready to lend aggressively when the 21-day lockdown lifts. Relaxation on installments, lower interest rates and easier access to working capital will help markets function well without financial stress as things start to settle down after a few weeks. The central bank has also lowered reverse repo rate to 4 per cent, giving banks another reason to direct their funds towards lending.

Below is a lowdown on what Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced to tide over these times of crisis:

Relief to retail borrowers

  1. Installments on all term loans to businesses and individuals, including principal and interest, have been deferred by 3 months. However, it is for the banks to decide who can benefit from this measure. This aspect will create confusion as each bank will take its own call.
  2. In an unprecedented move, RBI slashed repo rate by 75 basis points (bps), or 0.75 per cent. This will lower borrowing costs, making home, auto, personal and other loans lucrative. But just like earlier rate cuts, interest transmission is key for this bold move to succeed. Banks are still sitting on 0.5 per cent from interest rate cuts since 2014 that is yet to be transmitted to borrowers. Add it to the 0.75 per cent rate cut announced today, and we could have a 1.25 per cent reduction in interest rates. If passed on to borrowers quickly, it will be a huge relief for them.
  3. The MPChas also reduced Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) by a steep 100 bps. The last time we saw a reduction in CRR was seven years ago, when it was lowered by 25 bps. This move will cause deposit interest rates to fall, which is not good for depositors.

Lessening the burden of businesses

  1. All commercial banks have been allowed to impose a moratorium of three months on paying installments on term loans from March 1, 2020. The tenors will be extended accordingly.
  2. Lenders have been permitted to defer interest payments on working capital loans by three months. The accumulated interest will be paid after the deferment period expires.
  3. Businesses have been allowed to draw more working capital, subject to recalculation of margins or reassessment of working capital cycle by their lender.
  4. Moratorium on term loan repayments and deferred interest payments on working on working capital will not cause borrowers to be classified as NPA accounts. "Hence, there will be no adverse impact on the credit history of the beneficiaries," RBI said

More firepower for banks

  1. The central bank is going to infuse Rs 3.74-lakh-crore liquidity into the economy. This is an unprecedented move and will help businesses to hit the ground running when 21-day lockdown is lifted.
  2. Banks can get durable liquidity or funds up to Rs 1 lakh crore from RBI for a 3-year tenor.
  3. Reduction of 100 basis points in CRR with RBI, takes it down to 3 per cent from the earlier 4 per cent with effect from the reporting fortnight beginning March 28, 2020 for a period of one year. This reduction in CRR would release Rs 1.37 lakh crore for banks.
  4. Marginal standing facility has been increased to 3 per cent. This will allow banks to avail another 1.37 lakh crore from RBI.
  5. Reverse repo rate has been lowered to 4 per cent, which will discourage banks to park surplus funds with RBI and use them for loans instead.
  6. Delayed repayments on term loans and working capital will not be classified as NPAsfor three months.
  7. Last tranche of capital conservation buffer has been deferred by six months.

RBI Announces 3-month Moratorium On EMI Installments Of All Term Loans

The Reserve Bank of India has announced that banks are permitted to allow a 3-month moratorium on payment of installments of all term loans outstanding on March 1, 2020. This decision applies to all regional, rural banks, co-operative banks, NBFCs including Housing Finance Companies.

The Moratorium will not result in asset classification downgrade and will have no adverse impact on credit history of beneficiaries.

Measures also announced to ensure liquidity

This is a part of the Central Bank's measures to counter the Corona virus lockdown, which had started off with the RBI governor announcing massive slash in the key repo rate to 4.4%, to revive economic growth. Measures have also been announced to ensure liquidity.

The latest rate cut is by far the biggest by the central bank among a series of cuts that have been a highlight of Shaktikanta Das' tenure as Governor. However, the latest measure, which has come as an emergency measure and not within the RBI's bi-monthly policy-review framework, is three times the size of the cut generally applied.

This comes after minutes after influential Moody's Investors Service slashed India's 2020 GDP growth projection from its earlier forecast of 5.3% to 2.5% amid the global Coronavirus pandemic. The Indian government had earlier projected GDP growth at 5% in 2019-20 as compared to 6.1% in 2018-19. Q3 had witnessed a 4.7% growth. India has announced a Rs 1.7 lakh crore Coronavirus relief package, split between assuring food security and Direct Benefit Transfer cash-transfer as the country observes a 21-day lockdown to combat COVID-19, of which over 700 infections have been confirmed thus far.

Many start-ups could fold up sooner than later as B2B and B2C transactions plummet as a result of lockdown and shutdown across the country

Shashank Moddhia of healthcare start-up The Renal Project contacted executives of Bank of Baroda and IDBI at their Juhu branches in Mumbai a few days back for a Rs 10 lakh Mudra loan but none of them responded to his requirement.

As sanction or disbursal of fresh loan figures on the bottom of most banks' priority list following restrictions imposed by the government to contain Covid-19 cases, entrepreneurs like Moddhia who are unlikely to get loans may have to shut down operations.

"For instance, if I cannot get a loan to take care of my fixed costs, and if I had to shut down just one center, it means some 30 patients may not get timely dialysis and may cause risk to their lives," the bio-medical engineer-turned-entrepreneur said.

Geetha Manjunath, CEO and CTO of another start-up firm does not face imminent crisis but says she may not find it easy to raise funds in the next round as some performance metrics have fallen sharply.

"There is a serious impact on start-ups and SMEs. First, banks have squeezed on lending. Then, there are supply challenges with the manufacturing sector. It has led to serious liquidity issue for the start-ups," said KR Sekar, Partner, Deloitte.

Even for start-ups which are adequately funded, tough times are ahead. Many fintech start-ups have seen business going down by nearly half as the twin impact of Yes Bank collapse and Coronavirus weigh heavy on them. Pune-based LoanTap has been severely hit as events are being cancelled and travel plans postponed. Satyam Kumar, founder and CEO, LoanTap said he had deferred hiring plans for the coming fiscal as the businesses had seen downward trend.

There are many start-ups in a similar situation or even worse as the Corona crisis deepens in the country. As most of them live by the day, absence of financial support by the government could put a question mark on their survival. Many could fold up sooner than later as B2B and B2C transactions plummet as a result of lockdown and shutdown across the country.

A complete halt to Indian Economy may effects – job losses, stretched balance sheets, lower capex and weak consumer demand – are to be tamed.

The first two rounds of coronavirus outbreak have already wiped off Rs 52 lakh crore worth of equity investor wealth, with benchmarks Sensex and Nifty languishing at multi-year lows after falling 35 per cent from their January peaks.

January was the month when the virus was spreading in China at a rapid pace. It brought about the first round of impact on India, where companies saw supply-side disruptions, owning to their over-dependence on Chinese imports.

Sectors like autos and pharmaceuticals were impacted severely due to shortage of imported components. As the virus began spreading in India, it paved way for the second-round effect, where economic activity came to a halt due to lockdowns.

A host of companies from Service and manufacturing companies have announced temporary shutdowns.

On Tuesday, the government announced a nationwide lockdown for 21 days, which is likely to bring all economic activity to a grinding halt.

“The third round effect will likely materialize, as these shocks transmit to the rest of the economy, i.e. corporates facing a hit on bottom lines. Weaker firms will face cash flow shortages and workers will face pay cuts or retrenchments. This, in turn, can create a vicious cycle of lower corporate capex and weaker consumer demand,” Nomura India warned.

Here is how the situation might evolve from here on for the domestic economy and markets in different scenarios.

SCENARIO-1
In case the situation worsens in India and globally, there would be further selling in domestic stocks, and India’s GDP growth may drop to 3.5-4 per cent levels even as the global economy slips into recession, it said.

SCENARIO-2
In a rosy situation, the virus will be contained in India, and the shutdown would not extend beyond April 15.

In such a case, “we would be gradual buyers in equities. Indian economic impact will be limited and FY21 GDP target will be 4.5-5 per cent. But the March quarter impact will be severe,” Phillip Capital said.

SCENARIO-3
In the third scenario, the virus will be contained in India, but the crisis would worsen globally. In such a case, Indian equities will outperform and India’s GDP would grow at 4-4.5 per cent amid a global recession.

SCENARIO-4
Lastly, if the situation is contained in India and globally, Indian markets may outperform. “We will be aggressive buyers in such a scenario at current levels. There would be manageable economic impact on India and the global economic slowdown will last 3-5 months,” Phillip Capital said.

"Work management could be optimised through work from home, virtual meeting platforms, and other adaptive working practices," said Siddhartha Gupta, chief executive officer of Mercer|Mettl.

Virtual platforms helps the talent acquisition team to stay connected with the candidates through the entire interview process by video calls and still can connect on a real time basis with the candidates.

The usage of online assessment has been increased as part of the hiring process especially for the IT and Tech roles, to quickly filter and move candidates to the next level, experts said.

"Amidst the COVID-19 situation, Skillsoft's talent acquisition function has taken a decision to conduct all interviews via WebEx and avoid in-person interviews for the safety of both candidates and our team members. This helps the candidates attend interviews from their home or any remote location," said Krishna Prasad, head HR - APAC - Skillsoft, a global leader in corporate learning.

The virtual screening process has helped firms get into a mode where there is no physical exposure between the candidate and interviewer as social isolation will help to mitigate COVID-19-led disruption and sustain business continuity.

Amazon has changed its logistics, transportation, supply chain, purchasing, and third-party seller processes in order to prioritise stocking and delivering essentials amid coronavirus.

Amid coronavirus, ecommerce giant Amazon's Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos addressed his employees through the company's blog on Saturday, March 21. He announced that in this time of health and economic crisis, Amazon will be hiring for one lakh new roles, and raising wages for its hourly workers who have been fulfilling orders and delivering to its customers in this time of stress and turmoil.

Jeff Bezos said, "At the same time, other businesses like restaurants and bars are being forced to shut their doors. We hope people who’ve been laid off will come work with us until they’re able to go back to the jobs they had."

He further wrote that the company has changed its logistics, transportation, supply chain, purchasing, and third-party seller processes in order to prioritise stocking and delivering essentials. These will include household staples, sanitisers, baby formula, and medical supplies.

Bezos added, "This isn’t business as usual, and it’s a time of great stress and uncertainty. It’s also a moment in time when the work we’re doing is its most critical.... We're providing a vital service to people everywhere, especially to those like the elderly, who are most vulnerable. People are depending on us."

Since much of this work cannot be done from home Amazon has implemented a series of preventative health measures for its employees and contractors at its sites across the world. It has taken measures such as increasing the frequency and intensity of cleaning, and adjusting its practices in the fulfillment centres to ensure recommended social distancing guidelines. Additionally, the ecommerce giant had placed purchase orders for millions of face masks to be distributed among its employees and contractors who cannot work from home.

However, only few of those orders have been fulfilled so far. "Masks remain in short supply globally and are at this point being directed by governments to the highest-need facilities like hospitals and clinics," Jeff Bezos wrote. He added that it is not just him who is grateful for all the work that Amazon's employees have been putting in, but customers have been saying their thanks too through hundreds of emails and social media posts. "Your efforts are being noticed at the highest levels of government, and President Trump earlier this week thanked this team profusely," Jeff Bezos added.

Several people on social media have come out with various theories and claimed that clapping together at 5 pm would make such a "vibration" in the atmosphere that coronavirus will be destroyed.

The viral message reads The 5 pm clapping Modi asked us to do is extremely interesting.

At that time the moon is passing to a new 'nakshatra' called Revati. The playing of bells and clapping: The cumulative vibration will encourage blood circulation in the body. It's the reason they used to have huge, gong-like bells in old Shakti temples on the mountains.

Manage exam stress and anxiety

Exam season is right around the corner, which probably means that the notorious exam stress should be setting in right about… now?

As the notifications date of all Final Exams are out  - It has put young adults in a state of dilemma, as they are confused between the joy of enjoying a riot of color around (with blooming flowers everywhere) or face the anxiety and pressure. No wonder, counselors are being bombarded with phone calls for tips to de -stress.

The month of February and March is synonymous with pleasant weather as winter gives way to summer. This is a period to be enjoyed by the young adults. An ideal time to be spent with their family and friends before the punishing summer, instead they have pressure to study and not waste time in meeting friends. A fine balance between enjoying this season and a study has to be struck.

Keeping yourself completely shut is not a good idea. Do not avoid talking to your friends or meeting them once in a while. But, do so after you achieve your study targets regularly.

Balancing relationships and studies is not a laughing matter, it requires dedication. Both call for your time and devotion to grow and bear the fruits you have wanted. And, it can succeed only if you are in a relationship with a person with similar interests for knowledge and the love for it.

NEET 2020 Preparation

The National Testing Agency has made many changes to the only All India Pre-Medical Test in the country. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the only gateway to take admission to the undergraduate medical and dental courses in any Indian college or institute.

NEET is the only UG medical entrance exam medical aspirants should focus on now. However, students who qualify NEET and want to take admission in the MBBS courses of the Institutes of National Importance (INIs) like AIIMS and JIPMER will have to meet the institutes' eligibility criteria and minimum qualifying marks.

NEET 2020 will be held on May 3, 2020 - the first Sunday of May.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has introduced some changes to the exam in the light of the new National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill. The Bill will come into full force by 2021. The new Bill states that the 60-year old Medical Council of India (MCI) will now be replaced by the all-new NMC.

The NEET paper will be a single paper of three-hour duration. It will have a total of 180 objective-type questions (in the MCQ format), which will include:

  • 45 questions from Physics,
  • 45 questions from Chemistry, and
  • 90 questions from Biology (including both Botany and Zoology).

INNOVATION IS AGELESS

There's a misconception that breakthrough products or services are always created by smart young brains. But the evidence shows that innovation is ageless.

Every generation has its own slang and everyone over the age of 40 give or take a few years professes not to understand what "the kids" are saying, singing or emoji-ing. This isn't exactly new inter-generational news.  But it is part of a pervasive belief that is foisted upon us regularly and religiously by the mass media and, even more so, by lazy marketers. They  are quick to use age cohorts as speedy and simplistic guides to extract all sorts of meaning and to help them explain (or perhaps, more honestly, attempt to justify)  behaviors which, in truth, are far more complicated and more broadly distributed than they would prefer to admit or perhaps actually even understand. They seize on age as a shorthand, much like a drunk grabs a lamppost - not so much for illumination as for support.

They tell us that we act consistently and predictably in well-defined clusters and age-inflected groups; that our beliefs, desires and ultimately our own actions are inexorably dictated by chronological metrics; and thus demographics enforced by custom, tradition and peer pressures are the primary be-all and the end-all keys to discovering and manipulating our behaviors. The bulk of this conversation and most of the application of this idea has been toward product and service consumption. Yet every four years as we enter a new election cycle, we read, see and hear a great deal about how the same approach dictates the speeches, strategies, and spending of our politicians as well as they parade before and pander to defined segments of the populace.

A parallel and probably more unfortunate belief-- and one that's especially troublesome to old guys like me-- is that problem-solving abilities, the creation of novel solutions, and pure inventive powers belong to the young. This capability is known as fluid intelligence.  Conversely, we're told that our vision, flexibility and perceptions - basically our ability to see outside and beyond the boxes that we each build around ourselves - hardens along with our arteries and becomes far less agile and flexible as we age. The theory is that in order to keep moving forward as we grow older, we come to rely on a different and distinct set of skills based on our accumulated experience and iterative abilities. We thus focus more on incremental innovations and improvements rather than inspirational and game-changing moonshots. Not, just to be clear, that there's really anything wrong with that approach.

This more mature and deliberative capability is sometimes described as crystallized intelligence and relies on accumulated knowledge, pattern recognition and strategies of successive approximation rather than waiting for things to be perfect.  Of course, these are the talents and the basic tools of every seasoned entrepreneur.

But the pundits and "professionals" would argue that break-through discoveries and major strides forward in tech, innovation and new business development in general are age-bound and belong primarily to the young. We hear this theory expressed as indisputable gospel virtually every day in the tech world and, of course, in Hollywood as well where aging is definitely a mortal sin.

There was no new invention at work here - simply, innovation achieved through successive approximation and repeated attempts to keep getting a little bit better all the time. And just to be clear, these weren't newbie doctors;  they were clinicians of every age and stripe who came together to share information, exchange their practical experiences, and document the outcomes of hundreds of trials.

If anything, this was a clear example, not of youthful and inspired invention, but of hard-core applications of the very traditional scientific methods which had been around just short of forever, and which are at the very heart of successful innovation.

Recently, a Dubai based general manager contacted me to take a quick crash course coaching on cracking the interviews. He had an interesting tale. Raman freezes when the most dreaded question is asked in interviews. "So, tell me about yourself." Raman was perplexed when he was asked this usual seemingly regular question. "What do I respond to this? My life story? My childhood? Recent job? And I cannot keep going on and on. Right?" A few weeks later, I was at IIM Raipur to conduct a very similar workshop on " Managing self in the corporate world." In one of the role plays, a student kept narrating his tiny-tales of life. So much so, that I had to intervene and ask about the length of his response. Sudhir was even more perplexed. He feels that it is an obligation to respond at length when someone asks about you. "What do I do ma'am.?" Sudhir was standing clueless and bit embarrassed.

The situation is similar to many corporate strategy meetings. The head of the department or at times, of the organisation, keeps a rule. Each member of the meeting has to contribute. One of my clients did narrate a horror story. The head of the department made a rule that each person has to speak, no matter what the content is, in the "Growth hacks of this year" meeting. They were supposed to make pointers about these. After a while, the entire board room was a war cry. Each one brought out a reason to debate but there was hardly any solution. The grievances came out rolling and most of the time, it was baseless too.

I often see this tricky situation in my communication and strategy making workshops and personal sessions. Most people actually do communicate without a point. Points are not facts or notions. They are your thought process with a clear basis of what needs or could be done. Are you making that kind of points in your interview? So how do you respond to this million-dollar, so to say, kind of question?

FOCUS ON THESE SIMPLE HABITS TO BECOME MORE SUCCESSFUL

We each define success in our own way. However, there are some cornerstone habits of successful people that are universal. What I find especially fascinating about these cornerstones is that they make us feel more successful no matter how well we are executing against all of the other metrics we use to measure our success. That's really important, especially for entrepreneurs who are constantly bombarded by challenges that make them question their own success

Each of these three cornerstones makes perfect sense when you stop to think about them. The challenge is in making each one a relentless discipline in your life, even when things are not going at all in the direction you had hoped or planned.

Self-care- If there's one thing that entrepreneurs are notoriously awful at it's taking care of themselves. There are myriad obvious reasons, such as the time commitment required to run a business, financial uncertainty, travel, lousy sleep habits, and the stress of balancing personal and professional life. But there's another more insidious reason; we think we are immune to the toll this takes on other mere mortals. That's precisely why you need to have a self-care plan. I've seen entrepreneur burnout all too often. To counteract it you need a routine that's religion. It may be working out, setting aside time to be with family or friends in a totally non-work related mode, or focusing on something entirely selfish periodically (point 3 below). Whatever it is, be as strategically committed to it as you are to your business. No matter what else is going on you will feel a sense of achievement and success in knowing that you value yourself enough to be good to yourself.

Giving- As a leader you are in the privileged position to give something back. You have accomplished much more than most people ever will. Whether you like it or not, you are noticed. Use that position to help others find their own self worth and confidence. It may be through volunteering or mentoring or simply being a voice in larger social conversations that need an authoritative voice. Notice that I'm not talking about giving money but rather donating of yourself. If you can do both, then by all means do. But few things create a greater sense of success than the knowledge that you have something of value to offer in who you are and what you know. In my own experience one of the most rewarding and fulfilling activities I've been involved in has been mentoring. It quite literally costs you nothing and yet has immense and profound impact on the person being mentored. Part of my own feeling of success has always been in seeing someone else who I've had the honor of mentoring grow and succeed in their own right.

Hobbies-How often do you get the question, "So, what do you do?" Does your answer begin and end with, "I'm a CEO/ founder/ entrepreneur?" Come on, there's much more to you than that. Outside of your work and the time you spend with your family what defines you? The late management guru Peter Drucker would often talk about how important it was for entrepreneurs to have something completely outside of their professional life. When I look at some of the most successful people I know one commonality is a hobby they are almost obsessively passionate about. It may be art, a sport, collecting, even research into a field completely different from their profession, such as history. The obvious reason for this is that you need to escape. The less obvious, but more important reason, is that you need to refresh and reboot. When I write a book I also simultaneously paint. Alternating between my right brain and left brain seem to make both the painting and the writing much more successful. Most importantly, if you have a hobby you have a place to retreat and recharge and feel successful even when the business may not be doing that for you.

With each of these three habits what's critical is to construct--and I use that term deliberately--a life that is always supporting a positive sense of self and which provides solid ground and certainty when the rest of your professional life may be doing anything but that. However you define it, nothing is as important to your success as feeling that you are.

The industry life cycle represents the entire evolution, channelization, and saturation of industry or any business.

It typically has four stages which are the introduction stage, the growth stage, the maturity stage, and the decline stage. Through all these stages, an industry goes through its struggle to maintain at the top and in the end, it finally settles down.

Stages of the Industry Life Cycle-

The Introduction Stages- The introduction phase is also called the start-up stage.

The Growth Stages-

After the experience of the start-up stage, the companies or the industries get a firmer hold of the market in the growth stage. Although making a lot of profit is not the primary concern for the companies at this stage. Mostly they are invested in research and development of their products. Also, new products are launched for the further development of the industry.

Maturity Stage-

In this stage, the company starts to make a significant profit. They have their maximum revenue and cash flows as well.

In this stage, the customers are very much acquainted with the products of the company and the marketing is top-notch. As a result, the products become very popular in the market. Thus the demand is very high at the mature stage. As a result, the company reaches its top-game during this time.

Decline Stage-

This is the last stage in the industry life cycle. In this cycle, the costs become counter optimal, and the sales also decline. In this stage, the industry is no more able to support the growth in the market. Also, the revenues keep on declining during this period. The weaker competition is forced out of the market in this decline stage. In all, making the profit becomes very challenging in the decline stage.

TWITTER PLANS TO LIMIT REPLIES IN EFFORT TO COMBAT ONLINE ABUSE

Twitter had launched a feature late last year allowing users to hide certain replies on their tweets as a part of its efforts to clean up abusive content

Twitter Inc said on Wednesday it will test new features early this year that would allow users to control who can reply to their tweets, as it looks to limit abuse and harassment on the platform.

Social media firms are under pressure to address harassment on their sites, which often occurs in unsolicited replies targeting women and minorities, and Twitter Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey has promised since 2018 to increase the "health" of public conversation.

"We want to help people feel safe participating in the conversation on Twitter by giving them more control over the conversations they start," the San Francisco-based company said in a tweet.

The company had launched a feature late last year allowing users to hide certain replies on their tweets as a part of its efforts to clean up abusive content and make the social media platform more user-friendly.

In a presentation at the annual CES tech conference, the company laid out plans, according to reports by several tech media, including The Verge and TechCrunch.

According to the presentation, users will be able to choose four different settings for replies: Global, which would allow anyone to respond, Group, which would allow replies from people a user followed or mentioned; Panel, or people mentioned in a tweet, and Statement, or no replies at all.

Windows 7 reached it's End-of-Life today, so what will this mean for companies that choose not leave the operating system?

Due to the out-of-date security that Windows 7 will provide compared to the latest operating systems, companies choosing to stick with Windows 7 after its End-of-Life could be at higher risk to cyber attacks.

Another major pitfall that these companies will experience is the cost that will come with needed support, having been offered by Windows for free previously.

Microsoft are expected to charge Windows 7 Enterprise customers $25 per device, and Windows 7 Pro customers $50 per device, up until January 2021, after which costs will rise over the last two years of the extended support’s duration.

Research by Cloudhouse has found that 96% of the UK’s FTSE 100 and 250 companies are still running legacy applications on Windows, and Cloudhouse CTO Nick Coleman, says that compliance could also be a factor that these firms need to consider. “I’d like to think that organisations who have compliance requirements for whatever reason don’t have the same dependency on Windows 7,” he said. “So you would like to think that regulated industries such as financial services or healthcare, would have already made the move away because they would be out of compliance if they were not on supported platforms.

“So the first thing is that organisations need to look at their corporate risk profile and their compliance profile and ensure that they’ve got a solution to that issue.”

It came into light in the latter part of the nineteenth century in the 1890s and deals with various times of reminding information. As per the researchers, there are two separate systems related to memory at work and the primacy effect is because of long-term memory banks in the human brain. Whatsapp automatic message delete feature: WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow messages to disappear automatically. According to a WABetainfo report, this feature was seen on WhatsApp version 2.19.275 update which is for smartphones running on Android Operating System. This feature can be seen only by Android users who are running the beta version of the app. Once this feature is rolled out officially for all users, the messages can be deleted by selecting and then choosing the five options available for removing them. It is important to note that the feature will be first available on group chats. It will come to the individual chats after that.

The messages can be deleted after 1 hour, 1 week, 1 day, 1 month and 1 year. Users can choose out of these five options to delete the messages according to their convenience. The “Delete Message” feature isn’t new as apps like Snapchat, Telegram, and many others had released the feature a few months back and has been a hit among users. The purpose of this feature is also to clean up the group chats which are generally flooded with a lot of messages. Deleting some messages from the platform will help in reducing the clutter and freeing up storage space for its users.

For iPhone users, WhatsApp had released an update where users will get a call waiting alert when talking on a WhatsApp call

The Facebook-owned messaging platform is one of the most popular apps in India. WhatsApp has over 400 million users in India making it the biggest market in the country.

WhatsApp has, however, not revealed a statement on the new feature and it is yet to be seen if and when the feature rolls out officially. The company might release the “Dark Mode” on iOS 13 as well. It will be interesting to see what features does WhatsApp comes up within the new year.

SMARTPHONES FACE HIGH HACKING RISK IN 2020: REPORT

With 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) devices arriving on the horizon, data speed will increase but the speed of cyber attacks would also rise, said a Grant Thornton report. "Threat actors are expected to deploy advanced AI-led attacks to boost the speed and impact of their campaigns. IoT will throw new challenges to data security," said the report.

There was 54 per cent increase in data breaches in 2019 as compared to 2018 and 2020 will see significant rise in the number of mobile-focused malware and banking Trojans, a new report has predicted.

With 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) devices arriving on the horizon, data speed will increase but the speed of cyber attacks would also rise, said the report from leading accounting and consulting firm Grant Thornton.

"Threat actors are expected to deploy advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI)-led attacks to boost the speed and impact of their campaigns. IoT will throw new challenges to data security," said the report titled 'Cyber Trends in 2019 and Predictions for 2020'.

"Cyber attacks are on the rise and will continue to rise. It's not a matter of if but a matter of when. A framework-driven approach with continuous monitoring will help companies mature their cybersecurity posture and address incidents proactively," said Akshay Garkel, Partner, Cybersecurity & IT Risk Advisory, Grant Thornton India LLP.

According to the report, cybersecurity incidents including cyber bullying have skyrocketed by more than six times from the last year and data analytics will be critical to predict crime patterns and to reduce cybercrimes.The report expects the number of smartphone users in India to reach 673 million this year.

"Every 14 seconds, a ransomware attack was carried out on companies in 2019 while 71 per cent of reported breaches were financially motivated," the report said.

Facebook-owned Instagram on Saturday introduced three new options to share Boomerang Stories: SlowMo, Echo, and Duo, along with a new few feature to trim their length.

Your Instagram camera gives you ways to express yourself and easily share what you're doing, thinking or feeling with your friends. Boomerang is an iconic part of that, and one of the most beloved camera formats. Instagram is excited to expand on the creativity and give you new ways to use Boomerang to turn everyday moments into something fun and unexpected," the company said in a statement.

With SlowMo, as the name suggests, Boomerang videos are slowed to half their original speed. Echo creates a double vision effect, enhancing Boomerang and Duo, both speeds up and slows down Boomerang, adding a texturized effect.

The new effects come as an over-the-air (OTA) update.

To access these new effects, take a Boomerang as usual, open the Story camera, swipe over to "Boomerang" on the carousel, then tap the shutter button or hold it down and let go. Next, tap the infinity symbol along the top of the display to access the new effects.

Instagram recently launched new "Layout" feature that will allow users to include multiple photos in a single story.

With this, users now create their Stories with up to six different photos, although this new feature was already on third-party apps to create similar images.

A user just need to do is open the Stories camera inside Instagram and look for "Layout" to start combining the photos. Once finished, just publish the Story just like any other.
